California regulations require Dr. Nguyen and all dentists to complete a full exam, review medical and dental history, diagnose conditions, and establish a treatment plan before doing your teeth cleaning. However, Dr. Nguyen would do teeth cleaning for you in the first visit if you help her obtain, provide via email or her website, and fill out the required necessary documents prior to your first visit. The following steps are what to expect in your first visit at Dr. Nguyen’s Dental Practice.
- Prior to your first visit at our practice, unless you have an urgent dental pain, swelling, difficult breathing because of swelling (Call 911 if this is the case of swelling & difficult breathing), we need your help to request your treatment records that include X-rays, photos, and treatment notes from your previous dentists for the last four visits and/or within the last 2 years. This allows Dr. Nguyen to see your prior treatment recommendations, identify patterns/progression of disease, and learn about your prior specialist referrals to support the continuity of your care.
- Fill out the New Patient Forms from this link https://www.mpdentalexcellence.com/new-patients/ at least 2 days before your first scheduled appointment.
- At your first visit, Dr. Nguyen has reviewed your records and will go over your medical and dental history, take x-rays and photos of your teeth and anything that is different from normal healthy appearance in your mouth, do a comprehensive & gum exam, oral cancer exam. After doing these, she will determine if you need regular or deep cleaning. Then she will clean your teeth in this first visit.
- If your gum is tender to touch with the gum measuring instrument called periodontal probe, then the deep cleaning is needed. Any bleeding, inflamed, swelling gum will cause pain/tenderness/sensitivity to touch and compounded numbing gel is necessary for a thorough deep cleaning. This application of compounded anesthetic numbing gel takes time and careful attention to apply and make sure your gum feels comfortable and Dr. Nguyen can access the root surfaces prior to providing a thorough and good cleaning for you. This application of anesthetic gel costs $250 to $350 depending on the level of difficulty in each person. Some people salivate a lot and have excessive saliva. Some have very small opening of their mouth. Some have very active (hyperactive) tongue, cheek, lips that keep purging and pushing against the applied gel and cleaning devices. Dr. Nguyen has the right to refuse cleaning your teeth if you do not let her use the anesthetic numbing gel to give you a thorough cleaning. You can refuse to have it too.
- Dr. Nguyen will provide you with a refusal-of-recommended-treatment form so you can sign or terminate the visit if you don’t feel comfortable continuing the visit.
- After the cleaning is done, you and Dr. Nguyen work together to determine the next step forward. Whether you like to book or not for the next recommended cleaning visit or restoration date/appointment.
- After you leave your first visit, Dr. Nguyen will review all of your X-rays and photos and develop a treatment plan. This plan can be sent to your insurance plan for a Pre-Treatment Estimate or Pre-authorization for your copayment and insurance payment. Your Proposed Treatment Plan requires your signature.
